I really enjoyed doing the emergency simulation - it was a great experience, I've never done it before. It was really cool to basically be a doctor for 20 minutes, it was a pretty cool experience.

I really enjoyed the practice, simulating all the procedures and getting medical expertise to handle clinical situations. We went and did the venipuncture, which I really enjoyed, it was great to get the clinical experience.

We talked about diabetes and we took blood from the arm as well, so that's how we did the practical aspect. We also did suturing as well, which is another type of procedure. I really loved all the professionals as well, and talking to them. That was probably the best part as it helped to highlight my future career.

I’ve really enjoyed all the active quizzes. It was really enjoyable because I really understood what they were teaching me. And I got to learn how it is to actually be a doctor or a nurse working at the hospice. I got to learn how much work they put in to take care of these people.

I've liked all the different various activities we've done this week, in particular when we did the MMI actually doing a real, imitating a real-life MMI scenario and putting me on the spot to talk about different traits or skills that I've learnt. I also really enjoyed learning about the difference between a good death and a bad death at a hospice and palliative care.

Yes you can! As a DofE Approved Activity Provider, Medic Mind’s medicine work experience qualifies for the Gold DofE Residential section. As part of this residential, you will take part in organised sessions in the morning, afternoon and evening. You will stay in UCL halls of residence in central London. Call us today to book your DofE gold residential package.

Can you do work experience in a hospital?

Many students look to do medicine work experience in a hospital due to the variety of medical professions you can observe. However, when it comes to hospital work experience, London can be highly competitive and students are advised to contact hospitals well in advance of when they want to undertake their work experience in medicine. Our 5-day medical work experience programme takes the organisation away from you so you don't need to worry!

How can this work experience help me decide whether a career in medicine is right for me?

With hands-on activities, workshops, and visits to real-world medical environments, you’ll gain practical insight into different medical fields, helping you decide if it’s the right career for you.

What should I bring to the work experience week?

We recommend that students bring a notepad and pen to take notes (or a device to write on). In addition, students should bring a water bottle for the day. Students do not need to bring lunch as this will be provided but they might want to bring a couple of snacks to eat throughout the day. Please make sure these snacks are NUT FREE to take into account any students that may have nut allergies.

Where is the accommodation?

Students opting for the residential programme will stay in Ramsay Hall, part of the University College London (UCL) campus. Students will stay in single occupancy rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Male and female students will be placed in separate floors.

When do I check in and check out of the accommodation?

Students will be able to arrive on the Sunday before the start of the programme. There will be a member of the Study Mind team to greet you. Students will check out on the Friday after the programme has ended. If you would like to book an extra night accommodation (e.g. Friday night), please contact us and we can arrange this for you (dependant on availability).

When will I receive a schedule of activities?

Students can expect to receive a finalised timetable of their work experience week by the end of May. Students will also receive further information on what to pack/bring and pre-preparation materials by mid June so that they can prepare themselves for the programme and get the most out of their experience.

How do you ensure student safety during the programme?

All sessions are held in safe and well organised environments. Our staff are trained to ensure your safety, and we have comprehensive safeguarding measures in place. If you’re staying in accommodation, our team is available 24/7 for any questions.
